I have found copies of two sections of the Wang Hui Scroll depicting Kangxi's Journey to the South, here

which was obviously the scroll copied by Lu Jianguang in my bottles which I showed here

http://snuffbottle.smfforfree.com/index.php/topic,1989.0.html

You can compare the scroll sections with bottles three, six and five on my display (I obviously got the last two the wrong way around).

I believe these came from Wang Hui's Scroll Number One (there are twelve) which may be in the Beijing Imperial Palace Museum (not sure).

I would like to find all the depictions of this Scroll Number One - does anyone know where there are pictures?

Great work, Geoff. And I mean your tracking down the source and documenting it!  Grin
The artists' painting (both the original scroll and your 'copies' inside bottles) are of course
pretty good too... Roll Eyes
Best,

I am not sure if you are looking for any and all sources for scroll images ?

Maybe you already searched scroll images one through twelve via Google ?

Thanks Joey and George.

I agree with Joey that both the original scrolls and the bottles are superb - but the bottles are rather easier to hold and display.

Yes George, I've been through the Google route - at least I thought I had, but a look through your reference gave me another section of Scroll One - here

This appears in my bottles as bottle numbers twelve and nine, in that order - which shows again that both Lu Jianguang and I have got them in the wrong order.

It's interesting to compare the Kangxi figure in the original scroll and Lu Jianguang's bottle - here

The whole Kangxi figure including horse in Lu Jianguang's bottle is less than 10mm tall.

Actually I was hoping there was a reference book or something out there which had photos of the whole scroll. Clearly someone has found photos from somewhere (Lu Jianguang himself I guess) - but where?

Anyway, I've now covered five out of twelve bottle sides so that's progress.

Yes George, and not just the main figures.

Every figure and the background scenery are close copies of the original.

,Hi Geoff & all

According to the records, there were 12 painting scrolls recording the Emperor Kangxi 6 trips to the South.

The bottles painted by Lu Jianguang is based on the 1st scroll.

You can find the original scroll here:

http://www.aihuahua.net/guohua/shanshui/2388.html

Based on the records, scroll 1, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 are in China. Scroll 2 and 4 are in Paris, scroll 3 is in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, scroll 5 is lost, scroll 6 in a private collection in Phoenix City and scroll 7 in the University of Alberta in Canada.

For your reference.

Regards.

Thanks Richard, that's really helpful and added some good photos of Scroll One to my set.

But not all, I think - I can't find this one on that website

am I missing it?

Scroll One is in the Beijing Palace Museum but I can't find any photos from it on their website.
