I am posting  this Horn snuff bottle on Joey's behalf.

I believe the bottles belong another  Forum member Ted, it was sold as a Horn snuff bottle.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Steven

Ted was visiting me with his family for a few days, and brought this bottle. I'm sure it is horn, and probably buffalo.
The dating has me confused.
Any guesses?
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,

My guess is post 1950 bottle, the bottle shape, and design doesn't look right for a old bottle.

A nice looking bottle tho.

Best.

It does look like horn from the one pic looking at the mouth from the top view.

Dear Steven,

I think you are correct. I held it in my hand, and could not put my finger on why I didn't feel it was 'right'.
Thank you.
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,

I agree with Steven's dating, based on the bottle's shape. The waisted neck is too narrow.
The carving looks very well executed though.

Best,
Tom

Hello,

If you want know if it is made with horn, you can scratching some material, burn it and smell.  Should smell of burnt hair.
In my opinion it looks like dyed horn; I have some horn cups made whit the same technique.

Albert.

Dear Albert,

      Thank you for the info.
Ted (DCist), the owner, is back on the Forum, so presumably, he will decide whether to try it or not.
Best,
Joey
