So I'm stumped again.

I bought this bottle because of the interesting smoke trails in it, thinking it might be agate.
I looked for air bubbles - found a few that were elongated in trails and then tested it's specific gravity, which turned out to be 2.35
I really need a better scale than my kitchen one! I see glass falls between 2.4 and 3.

So this must be glass, right?

Yes, it is... If ever in doubt, look at the base of the bottle.. You can see how the glass is pushed outward from the center of the base. This is from the glass maker swirling it as he made it..

Definitely glass Cathy, but don't be disappointed! These imitations of stone bottles are quite sought after by collectors. Some of the better examples command higher prices than their natural stone equivalents.

Dear Cathy,

I agree with Tom and George. Your bottle looks mid-19th C. to me. At one stage (early-mid 1970s), it would have retailed for US$20-30. Today, depending on condition (no damage), it could go as high as US$300, I would have thought. But I've not bought bottles like that in 30 or 40 years.
    Guys, is my 'guesstimate' accurate?
Best,
Joey

Very good to know! It would be really excellent if there were a price guide to reference. I try to find examples or near examples and see how much they've sold for at auction but that can be difficult.

There is a LeSan inside painted bottle on Ebay right now listed for 445? I think - I was looking at this and realizing I have no idea how to determine it's value.  Some bottles are one of a kind, or referenced in impossible to find books, and even then with no value.

What suggestions do you have on that?

I just sold one very similar for 100.00

I am on a self imposed buying restriction after a recent BBB (bottle buying binge) but tell myself it's still ok to "look"
