Dear Friends,

I am sharing a nice agate bottle with a coral stopper. I believe it is similar to 159 in the "The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle".

Regards,

Marcos

Wow Marcos !

This is a most interesting bottle !  What I would think an impossible task, this carver managed somehow to track the darker areas to the contour ( like #159) of the banded agate..

For the longest time, I was completely perplexed on how a carver could blindly predict the path of inclusion so as to end up with a motif flat to the surface.. It made no sense to me..  It was not until just a few months ago, I think it was a bottle Charll shared that showed me many of the themes are not flat, the carver had to carve into the stone "chasing" the inclusions to acquire the motif. That made sense..  It is the bottles with motifs that are flat to the surface that I like much better.

But, in your bottles case, and #159, not only was the "Masterly skilled" carver able to keep a motif flat to the surface, but also "around in a circular" .. An amazing accomplishment from a lapidary/carvers perspective.  Outstanding bottle, and yes, a good match to #159..

Thank you for sharing it !

I am happy you liked it.

The bottle is quite well-hollowed as well.

Marcos
