Dear All,

I had the impression that this was a spinach jade bottle. That was confirmed by a specific gravity reading of about 2.90, which is right for nephrite.

On the other hand, I managed to scratch it with a blade (you can see the scratch on the photo).

Now, as far as I know, nephrite has a hardness of 6 - 6.5 and therefore couldnīt be scratched by steel.

Does anyone know what could this material be?

Thanks once again for your help.

I have not handled a whole lot of jade, but my first impression is also Spinach Jade.  And yes, 6.5 can be scratched with a steel blade..

Dear George,

I always had this idea that if something could be scratched, it could not be jade.

Thanks again for your help.

Warmest Regards,

Marcos
