Dear All,

Sharing another two lacquer bottles measuring 5.8 cm height without the stoppers.

I understand these are lacquer on textile bottles in the Fuzhou style.

Best Regards,

Marcos

Dear George,

You took the words right out of my mouth...   Wink
Best,
Joey

Dear Marcos,

The one on the left looks post - 1950s to me; because of the context - together, and same material, decoration, stopper, spoon and colour (whichever colour it is), I am assuming the double gourd one is, as well. I also thought 'Japanese' at first.
Does anyone else have a different idea as to age?
Last 'modification to post' (I hope.  Grin Roll Eyes): From the caramel colour, I would have guessed that the bottles were bakelite.
Best,
Joey

To me both of these look new(er).  Post 1970s in my view.

Hi Marcos,

I'd also say these two bottles were 1960s or later.
From the photos they look as if they are made of one material right through (i.e. solid), as opposed to a thin layer of lacquer over a wood or textile base. If they are made using the Fuzhou method, they should be extremely light in weight.

Dear Marcos,

For the mouth opening, It does not resemble lacquer on textile.
And like Tom has mentioned, does it feel very light?

Cheers,

Dear Marcos,
your bottles are of the same type of two bottles that I did post here some time ago. They are made of some sort of resin, perhaps Bakelite as suggested by Joey. On my ones too I can see that there is a surface thin layer, perhaps some type of lacquer. For coincidence, I am just selling my ones on ebay:

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

The caramel colour is because I changed the light intensity when I took the pictures so that we could better see the layers (or the absence of layers). I would describe the true colour as reddish.

Hi Giovanni, thanks for the link. I think you are right, it appears to be bakelite. I am going to test it with a hot pin.

Kindest Regards,

Marcos

Dear Marcos,

But test it inside the neck, or another place where it won't damage the bottle.
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey
