Dear All,

Can anyone help me date these enamel porcelain bottles? They measure 5.5 cm (without the stoppers).

Thanks a lot,

Marcos

Just want to say how much I like the first one, and the other would be a second place for me..

Not sure what to make of that second one.. But others here will certainly help you.

Dragons are REAL popular motifs here.. !

Marcos,

I would say both bottles are no earlier than Guangxu 1875-1908, are likely of this period or a little later.

Dear Marcos,
Charll is right as usual. The first bottle is a typical example of Guangxu bottles, the style and enamels of the dragons, plus the incised background are pointing to that.
Dear Charll, how strange is the second bottle, isn't it? The faces in particular, but also other details, like hairstyle, hats, etc are a bit odd. I think that I will send the link of this thread to Tommy (Gotheborg).

Dear Marcos,

I tried to send an email yesterday, but I'm in a hotel and the wifi is not always good enough. It 'sent' for 20 min., and then didn't go! Frustrating.

I wrote that the first was Guangxu, but the second was 1920s - 1940s  in my opinion.
The shading is definitely 'wrong' in my opinion for any earlier, though the dragon bottle is a classic and quite nice example of this type of Guangxu enameled porcelain.
Best,
 Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Very good dear Joey. I have sent the link to Tommy and he said the same as you, in his opinion according to the style of faces, hairdo and rope the bottle should be about 1920.
Kind regards
Giovanni
