A very nice bottle Eric.  One I would love to own!  The top looks like smoky quartz to me though.  I have never seen tourmaline in that color, but of course that doesn't mean it isn't.  My guess is late 19th early 20th century.

Hm. Very nice...

By the way, please resize/compress your pics to be no more than 300kb, most of us resize to 1200x768 or 800x600 and average 100-150kb or less.  Just to save George on forum storage costs.

Dear Eric,

Please fix the eight bottle pictures too. They are way too big in a post.

I agree with Pat's dating. Nice inclusions.

Cheers,

Thanks for sharing Eric!

It seems that you already used to posting the right size images.Smiley, George has to buy the storage for us in order for us to post the images, so we are trying to keep the file size down all the time, Thank you for doing that.

Another nice bottle.Love the color! Smiley

Nice bottle Eric!

This is one of a series of aquamarine bottles sharing similar characeristics, including the tourmaline stopper. The late Mrs. Fay Plohn had quite a number of bottles like this, as did Dr. Edward A. Kopnitz.  Bonhams and Sloan & Kenyon have included many examples in their sales in recent years. These bottles are usually dated by the auction houses as 1880-1940, although I suspect some to be slightly newer.

Points to look for are good colour tone and clarity of the stone. (Most of the modern bottles - 1960s onwards - have a cloudy or milky appearance.) A few small flaws are inevitable, otherwise the mineral would have been classed as gem grade and made into jewelry instead of bottles.

Yours is a nice example. Hope you didn't pay to much for it.
