Dear all,

Sharing a copper with silver inlaid bottle inscriptions with accompanying dish. Flat foot and copper spoon.
Made in 1834, DaoGuang period. 6cm Height.

It is a rare piece as it contains a certain fun element to the bottle.

Cheers,
YT

Dear YT,

What's the 'fun element'? Can you squeeze the bottle to make snuff puff out?
Best,
Joey

Dear YT,

Interesting bottle - I have seen only a few like this over the years. What is the inscription about? Is there one on both sides?

Dear Joey,

It will be difficult to squeeze any snuff out since it cannot hold powder.

Dear Richard,

I have make sure that there is no genie although there is a certain magic here. The dish can disappear.

Dear Tom,

There are two different poems on each side. Also the maker's name and precise date is inscribed.

Cheers,
YT

Dear YT,

Thank you for sharing such an unique bottle, I am wondering how the siliver inlaid applied. After carving?

Dear YT,

Is it really a snuffbottle-shaped 'carrying case' for a personal snuff dish?

Dear YT,
nice bottle. How do you mean that the dish can disappear? I don’t see a way that could couple it with the bottle, I am wondering how it could be the coupling. I have not found the date on this side, is it on the other side?

Dear all,

Secret is revealed and as usual Joey guessed it.

The other side shows a couplet written in cursive-draft script signing off with Sun Xike during the first decade of the chrysanthemum month of the Jiawu year of the Daoguang era.

I cannot post any photos since yesterday as our server could have overloaded!! So please use your imagination on how the snuff bottle is not a bottle but a container with hinges on the foot.  Huh Tongue

Guys, please refrain from posting photos above 300Kb and 800 pixels!! Especially those new to our precious forum, thanks to George.

YT,

This is a first for me as well.  In all the years looking at snuff bottles I've never encountered such snuff dish carrying device.  Very interesting!

Dear All,

I must confess - I first saw it in the Kardos Collection in the 1980s!
When I saw it again, I remembered that there was some trick, but couldn't remember what it was.
When YT stated it couldn't hold powder and that the snuff dish could 'disappear', I remembered the
Kardos piece - Ladislas showed it to me over dinner one night, and was quite proud of it.

     Best,
Joey

Thank you everyone.

Dear Joey,

How did Ladislas describe this bottle?
I am still trying to get the correct description across. Not sure to put this under the bottle category too Huh

Cheers,
