 Hi Everyone
This is a clear glass bottle that I recently acquired. The carvings of bamboo trees and a type of flowering plant that I cant identify were done in low relief.
Flattened high shouldered form, well hollowed, suffused with tiny bubbles with some debris, flat and recessed lip, oval slightly concave foot, narrow mouth, slightly beveled edge around the neck.

H: 5.9cm

Condition: a few light chips around the mouth and a nibble in a plant stem

Thank you for any comments that you may have

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear Kevin,

This is a rock crystal, clear variety of Quartz.

The flowering side should be lotus.

Due to the hardness, hollowing looks to be by machinery drilling.

Cheers,
YT

YT

Maybe it is just my eyes but I think I see some air bubbles in the neck.

Kevin

Can you take a look or post some detail pics?  For your info, the concave opening would indicate an older bottle, in my view.  lets see what the others think.

Thanks

Dear Pat,

I am almost very sure of it as I have a few similar bottles either same bottle shape or same low relief carvings.
Those are just inclusions in the neck. Just use a light to shine at it and it will reflect.

My bottle have the same drilled lines in the hollowing.

Cheers,
YT

Thanks for clearing that up.  Just proves how hard it is to judge from pictures only....

Dear Kevin,

I agree with YT that it is quartz, also called rock crystal; and with Pat, that it is an older bottle, possibly late 18th C., but certainly no later than Daoguang, from the photos.  Having written that, everyone on the Forum knows I can be mistaken - I'm not good at judging when the bottle is not in my hand.
And I agree with George's sentiments, too.
Best,
Joey

Dear All,

I am grateful to each of you for lending your expertise on this topic, very much so.  Thank you

PS Yt,
I appreciate knowing the identity of the flowering plant Smiley it completes the puzzle for me as to what I believe would be the meaning behind the bottle's imagery in bestowing it to someone, a wish for enlightenment and a long life

Kindest regards

Kevin
