Hello everyone,

An interesting and I think very pretty mocha stone picture bottle that I recently acquired. Some moss green inclusions are at the top with a few translucent to milky white quarts formations in the mix.
Well hollowed, of flattened globular form, recessed lip, concave foot.

H: 2 3/8" ; 6 cm

Your comments would be greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

I have to admit that I had never heard of mocha stone, so has to look it up. Interestingly, most online dictionaries say it is a synonym for moss agate. Looking at your bottle images it clearly shares none of the visual characteristics I normally associate with moss agate, so I delved a little deeper.  A website of mineral data (mindat.org) describes it as "a variety of Agate (Chalcedony) containing inclusions of Pyrolusite", which would explain its slightly metallic lustre.

Judging from the overall shape of your bottle (including neck, mouth, foot, etc.), as well as the novelty factor of this stone, I'd guess it was made sometime after 1990. An attractive bottle, with limitless interpretations for the markings.

Will be interested to see what others have to say!

Tom

I am going with everything that Tom suggested..

I also had to do a search for "mocha" and seemed to me like Kevin was talking about it being a mocha color.

I am not seeing the same metallic luster that Tom is though..

Chalcedony agate sounds about right..

I saw a couple orbs in the stone, I believe this is rainforest Jasper from Australia. This was made maybe 4- 7 years ago, about that time the stone was being made to make inexpensive beads inside China.

Not a rainforest jasper for sure ..
