Dear all,
bought from a dealer coming from South France. It has a concave mouth and a concave foot and it is well hollowed. The gold like reflection is highly changing depending from the angle of illumination, it can disappear completely or fully shining and the same is for the blue areas. As you see in the last two pictures the stone is not really opaque, it is transmitting light. Very eye catching for the light changes. What type of stone is? I thought opal but I am not sure if opal is opaque or not. 64 cm high.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

It could be opal, or it could be one of a number of minerals which reflect colours.
Whatever mineral (And I see that Rick, George  and Charll all agree that it is Labradorite),
It is a very beautiful material.
Best,
Joey

I think it is a low grade Labradorite.

Giovanni,

From the photos I'm 99.9% sure it is Labradorite.  I have seen a number of these contemporary bottles on the market, many of which are coming directly from China presently.

Dear Giovanni-

George and Charl are correct, the stone is Labradorite.  The optical effect of reflected colors is in fact call labradoresence.

Dear Giovanni,

http://snuffbottle.smfforfree.com/index.php/topic,2261.0.html
This link is a bottle made of labradorite. It shines at different angle.

Your bottle looks like a mix of materials though.

Cheers,

Dear all,
thank you very much. I did look at the images of labradorite on the net and yes, it must really be that stone, the reflections are the same. Dear Charll I also agree with you that the bottle is not old, at list not so much, it should have a few years only.
Thank you again.

This is low grade labradorite and is low grade because of the lack of reflection in areas of the stone. Years ago, maybe 7, they sold this grade stone for $2 a kilo in the hills of Shenzhen. Higher grade bottles can be found, but you need a significant area of good stone in order to make one. At the time, this stone was cheap. I estimate, the bottle at less than 10 years old and give it a value of maybe $35.
