Dear Pin,

It looks very good to me, but I'm notorious for not being able to judge over the internet.
And I don't want to share information on details which I like, so as not to share them with those who fake bottles.
I will write you privately.
Best,
Joey

Dear Pin,

It looks good to me too. Although I have had disastrous experiences with 'camphor' glass, so would be extremely wary of it.

Dear Tom,

I can understand your wariness re.MODERN overlays on camphor; but if this is indeed pre-1850, and I think it is ca. 1750-1800, there should be no problem. I had never seen damage like that on your modern overlay SBs, EVER before you showed them to me in your home. I hope never to see such damage ever again.

Best,
Joey

Gosh, I have much to learn about these... Because the camphor looks wrong to me..  Yet I really like the shape of the base bottle..  The quality of the carved overlay does not look so hot to me either..  Guess I have much to learn.. Just would have expected better quality from a suspected 1750-1800 candidate..

Dear Pin,

Very happy you got it.

Dear Tom,

This was one bottle that I handled and wanted during the Bloch sale. I had to give up as the crizzling was quite bad and I remembered your warning.
http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2015/snuff-bottles-from-mary-george-bloch-collection-part-x-hk0576/lot.174.html

Yet it went for such high price at the end.

Pin's bottle looks good and should last for a long time.

Cheers,
YT

Dear YT,

Yes, the crizzling does look quite extensive, but I assume it happened over a periopd of two hundred years, so is perhaps reasonably stable now.

What a provenance and exhibition show-list! That explains the hgh hammer price.

Dear Tom,

It will be a great risk if the buyer is from a country that has a big atmospheric difference from Hong Kong.
Also, it will be difficult to sell in the future.

Cheers,

Dear Tom,

   I've removed my post.
Joey

Dear Tom,

You would, or would not "be extremely wary"?  Huh

Best,
Joey

Oops - a typo. It's now been corrected.
