I have a few snuff bottles that I need some insight on but will start with a silver one which I recently picked up at an estate sale. Attached are a few images of the bottle. If anyone can provide some insight as to the bottle itself, age, value, etc. it would be deeply appreciated.

On a side note I am attaching a couple images from a Japanese watercolor painting that I picked up at a different estate sale. If anyone out there can read Japanese and can tell me who the artist is, a date, or whatever other info is in the writing it would again be amazingly helpful.

Thanks up front for all of your help!

Scott

Hi Scott, and welcome to our forum..

I have not seen one like this before, but have seen other bottles that I had believed were intended for snuff use with screw top/spoon like yours..

I can not help with the script, but perhaps it is associated with the motif showing a boy riding on the back of an elephant. The phrase “elephant rider” in Chinese sounds similar to “fortunate” or “auspicious”. This pairing announces the arrival of good fortune.

Hopefully someone will be able to translate this for you..

I do like the bottle very much though !
