Dear Pin,

It could be stone  (which type?) or Baltic Amber, based on the coloration. But we need to see the mouth and the base to give any better suggestion as to material, period, etc.
Best,
Joey

Dear Pin,

It does look like it's made from Honey-Toned Agate. Age, I am with Joey. Need to have more photos otherwise guessing at 20th.

Cheers,
YT

Dear YT,

You are right that it could be 'honey agate' but you'd not know it from those pics.  Grin
I've never heard of the 'Thompson Collection, Portland OR', or R. Krieger.

Best,
Joey

I was so caught up with the 'provenance' issue, and the question of the material, I forgot to
say that I think the bottle looks like a very nice early to mid 19th C. bottle.

Hi Pin,

I have a few honey agate bottles, but mine are modern, and the stone is not as attractive as this one.

Your bottle has a very elegant shape. I love the simplicity. The only part that detracts for me is the incised leaf in the bottom corner. Several of my modern bottles have the same incised leaf over the part of the stone which is slightly darker than the rest. This is not something I have come across on older bottles. So, without the incised leaf design, I would date it mid to late 19th century (assuming the mouth and foot details 'speak' the same language).

In my opinion the incised leaf is mid to late 20th century. BUT......it may have been added to an older plain bottle.

George,

I see the one in your link just went for £320. Anyone here the lucky winner?

The bottle in replies #8 & 9 really is a beautiful classic rectangular flattened flask with curved corners, raised footrim and cylindrical neck. Without holding it, I can't be sure (since I can't see whether it has the proper wear consonant with the age I think it has, or whether it is well hollowed enough), but based on what I can see, I'd date it to ca. 1750 - 1830.

Pin,

Regardless of its age, it is indeed an elegant bottle to be held in the palm !

Congratulations !

I agree with Joey, and think the successful buyer should be very pleased to get it at that price.

Here is a nice pebble jade that I was following as I had a bid on it. It attracted some fierce bids, and went a few hours ago for a high price......at least by ebay standards.

All best,
Tom

Tom

Great bottle!  Out of curiosity, how much did it fetch?  Thanks ....

PS, Please apologize to your daughter. I have had problems with LINE and have not been back to Thailand.  A lot of work outside the country this month.  Unfortunate for me that I haven't been able to use her skills to photograph the rest of my bottles.

OK, I'll pass on your message to my daughter. She's been here 6 weeks, leaving in a few days. Next time maybe...

Thanks Tom.

As you know, the Thai economy is not doing well, so all my efforts are outside the country.  In last 2 months I have been back only three times, once to Bangkok for the weekend and twice to Phuket to see the family.  Not easy times..

As to the request for the bottle, I have one almost exactly like it, so it kind of spooked me for a minute.   It is one that hasn't been photographed yet by Helen.

No problem Pat, I'll let Helen know.

I have a particular fondness for pebble-form bottles, so if yours is anything like the ebay one, I look forward to seeing it one day!

Dear Tom,

A beautiful 'skin' pebble jade bottle. That is not an unreasonable price...
