Both Pin and I were watching this bottle which sold at auction recently for US$1900.

The painting looks good (it is very similar to a YZS I posted here one year ago) but the bottle looks a bit odd and the Auctioneers did not mark it as a Ye bottle.

Is it a real YZS?

If so, $1900 seems quite cheap?

Dear Geoff,

I think it looks real enough. I like how the carp turns around.

Is this auction house reliable and is there any provenance? The low price could also be the cracks on the foot risking the integrity of the bottle or just weak buying power.

Cheers,
YT

hi  Geoff,

That is a real thing, and it also should be from Ye the elder, since its dated 1912.

The bottle is very well painted and painting condition is really good as well. $1800 sounds like a real cheap price for such a bottle. But I don't know the crack on the foot addressed by YT, it could be a reason it ended with a  low hammer price.

Very nice Ye the Elder example ! Although I do not see any similar bottles shapes painted during this time within the Apricot Grove series, still a perfectly acceptable and beautiful bottle..

Hi all...

Remember another carved bottle that I posted a few mths ago with a similar "badly" carved bamboo bottle with the painting subject of the 7 sages in the bamboo jungle... At that time, some of us think that it's real and said that it must be a well copied...  I think this bottle is very similar...

Maybe Ye ZS did decide to be more "creative" at some point of time and decided to paint some of his favour theme on carved bottles

Thanks All

The auction company was Waterford's, Berlin, NJ, USA. The auction was the Fine European, American & Asian Art Auction on 25 April. The recommended price for this bottle was US$200-300, which shows how much they knew. As I said above, they did not say it was a YZS bottle and offered no provenance. I was tempted to bid but I would not have gone above $1000 as I was just guessing it was genuine.

The Lot before this one also interested me

This went for US$175.

Worth watching this Company for future auctions

Dear Geoff,

Are you the buyer? $175 is a steal.  Wink

But by commenting in public, I think you will have more competitors in the future.

Cheers,

This is funny - I was the seller of the inside painted and the enamel bottle.  Unloaded some of my not so good bottles - prices were depressed though.

Oh gosh Henric.. Sorry they did not fetch a better price for you..

Would have needed to see more pics of the enamel bottle, but looks special..  Wish I would have paid attention and seen this auction..

Dear Henric,
These bottles were quite nice. If you have better Inside Painted, then that is good. The enameled glass looks modern to me, but again quite nice.
  Best,
Joey
