General information about the Site

This Chinese snuff bottle community forum is dedicated to the novice, more experienced, and expert collectors. Topics are intended to cover all aspects and types of bottle collecting. To include trials, tribulations, identifying, researching, and much more.

We also freely pour out our pains of spending money, only to later find that our choice in a bottle was not as we expected ! There is no extra charge for our "pain management" program !

We are also working extra hard towards supporting, and giving well deserved recognition to all new and upcoming student artists of "Very Modern" inside painted bottles.

Forum Bottle In The Spotlight !

Another extra special bottle that our fellow collector Pin shared. The "thousand word" classical text is painted by LI Ruchen with a beautifully shaped bottle of upright rectangular form, and sloping shoulders. Congratulations Pin !

Dear all,
I'm discovering this thread and wondering whether an intriguing bottle which I bought years ago could fall in this category. It is of white porcelain, with a hasty underglaze blue enameling, in an unusual poach form (the form, but not the decoration similar to an example in the Bloch collection). The mouth is in a rather square shape and it bears an (indecipherable?) inscription at the neck. Any suggestion?

Best wishes

Georges

Dear Georges,

Welcome Back! Long time, no hear!
It looks like a beautiful little bottle, but you HAVE to make the bottle visible on a single screen when blown up!
It is impossible to view as you've got it posted at present.
Best,
Joey

Sorry Joey, I lost the practice. Isn't this to small?

Georges

PS: I just finished writing/editing a book with John Benjamins that took all my time...

Dear Joey, John Benjamins is a scientific publisher from Amsterdam, Smiley

Dear George, excuse my ignorance: what's a "Quimper type" SB?

Best

George, do you mean pottery produced in Quimper, France? I have seen some scent bottles with colourful decorations produced there, but no blue and white and no chinese inscriptions...
