Does anyone have this catalogue of an exhibition, Hong Kong, October-December 1986. By Gerard Tsang and Hugh Moss.

I have it, George. Why do you ask?

Funny, I never thought of it as a 'catalogue' as it's quite a hefty book, and the tallest in my library.

I just went to check. It's about the same size as Helen White's 'Snuff Bottles from China', standing over 14 in tall, and almost as thick. Ordered it from Paragon Books in 1998 for US$150, and never regretted it.

The few I found online started at 250, and went as high as 950.. So you got a bargain..

Looks like an interesting book for sure, and put it on my wish list..

Will let ya know later when I get closer to making heads or tails of what am reading.. .

That was the publisher's retail price at the time. It's obviously become a 'collector's item' since.

Dear George,
I have a copy too, but in my Ireland library. I got it cheaper than Tom, at Han Shantang bookstore in London, a few years after it came out (UKL equivalent of US$85 in 1988, I think).
     Best,

I bought my copy in 1998. The book seems to double in value every 10 years.  Smiley

George,

It is a nicely arranged reference book. I bought it during a trip to Malaysia in the late 90's.

It was written in the 'Good Old Days', before Hugh Moss pissed off Gerard Tsang over something ethics- and cash- related, and Tsang stopped having anything to do with Moss.
I don't know any more than that. But in 1990, they were still friendly enough that Tsang got Moss the loan of the only known Gan Xuanwen handscroll, in the collection of the Art Gallery of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It was on display at the Gan Xuanwen display by Moss during the 1990 Hong Kong ICSBS convention.
Incidentally, the bottle that Moss promised me first refusal on and then sold to Bloch, a shadow agate with minimal carving  (a few strokes to suggest a base for a meditation rock in darker colour, 2 strokes as antennae on  a butterfly, and a few characters to the right of the rock on the decorated side), is illustrated in this book/catalogue.
