Hi All :

Is this the correct RED colour for a Yangzhou bottle ?..... most of the red that I have seen seems to have be a brighter/lighter hue of red.

The theme of the bottle is quite amusing... with a few little demons preparing a meal for their Master ZhongQui

Thanks

Dear Pin and Steven,
I don't remember if I have already posted this very similar bottle here. Representing Zhong Kui. I will be surprised if this too is a new one.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Hi Pin and Giovanni,

The last two you posted all look right to me.

- Giovanni,

The Zhongkui bottle you posted is very nice one, if you look at the carving, its very shallow, but it give you 3d feeling, I don't know how to describe. But if you look the Zhongkui bottle Pin posted at beginning, the carving look very flat.

-Pin,

The color is a key factor to ID the glass bottle, but for the Yangzhou bottle, the carving is even more important, since the camera might not reflect the real color of the bottle sometimes, in this case, if you shop online,  how it being carved is more important.

Hi Steven :

Many thanks to all the key points your shared.

Agree that the last 2 bottles are much more lively than the first.... The carving, at some point are almost right to the base leaving only a very tiny layer of colored glass.... That probably provide a 3D illusion to the overall picture....

Once again... Thanks a lot

Thank you dear Steven. Yes, despite being the red layer very thin, there are several degrees of thickness within it, denoting a good carving. The bottle is part of the former lot of bottles that I bought from an old collector.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Hi Pin and Giovanni,

I think both of the latter 2 bottles look very nice, especially the Taihu or Shou (still can't tell difference on the smaller ones) rocks on Pin's bottle.

Kind Regards,
David

Hi Steven,

Is it true that the Yangzhou bottle usually have "seals" and rocks/branches carved on it? Some of the ones I saw online or in photos that have the rocks in high relief on the sides or bottom off centered are amazing.

I don't know enough yet, but (not trying to put down Giovanni's bottle, as it looks pretty to my eyes, I like the shading effect and the line of balance of his postures when he sneaks up on the bats and then to entice them to follow him) do you think his Zhong Kui is also taking too much of the space of the bottle and makes it feel crowded for a Yangzhou bottle?

There is a very odd simple clean look that I like about Yangzhou bottle and somehow it is a little lacking? I still can't describe it, but the Mustard Seed book seems to allude to it as controlling the emptiness so that the viewer can have the sense of depth and be drawn into the space frame of the painting (my interpretation, but that is one hard boring book to read as I don't understand most of the drawing techniques...).

Does this have to deal with time frame or the size of the bottle?

Thanks,
David
