Hi All :

This is a bottle that I received a few days ago..... I actually didn't know that I "purchased" this bottle until I saw a email from the auction house !!! I have totally forgotten about the auction but did placed a min starting bid of $250 for this bottle many weeks ago..........When I checked back at the auction, activities seems to be pretty good with most of the bottles having competition.....

I was expecting a total crap.....But after receiving it, I kind of like this bottle!!





I am not sure what material this bottle is..... its opaque white with skin and does not have the translucent texture of jade...... its NOT glass imitating jade..... definitely stone.

The bottle is well hollowed and finished with a shinning smooth polish.....

Any comment on this bottle ?

Hi Pin,

It looks like a very nice bottle, but you might have to take the picture under the daylight to show the detail of the texture to help the experts ID it.

Hi Pin,

What makes you think the bottle is not jade? To me it looks like jade with a russet skin (either natural or by artificial staining), finished with a high polish done by a modern polishing machine. The old hand polished bottles usually have a softer sheen.

If it is not very translucent, that could be due to poor hollowing (thicker walls). How well hollowed is it? And how long is it without its stopper?

Hi Tom :

The bottle is actually quite well hollowed... At least, when you try to peep thru the small hole against a 60W artificial light, you can clearly see the shadow of your finger moving clearly ....

I am not sure that it's jade with russet skin but really hope so......!!!!
 
The hole is also pretty small, which is consistent with older bottles ...

The bottle is 57mm height 35mm across.... Which is really a good massaging stone to spin around the palm.....

Hi Pin,

I don't quite understand your earlier comment that "it does not have the translucent texture like jade."

If you can see your finger's shadow through the bottle, that sounds like translucent to me!

I know it's really confusing .. It's like solid white at the white portion... Chalk whilte!!....It does not have that smooth translucent feeling ... But it's carved enough to allow a shadow...

Or should I say... First look, you will be convinced that it must be opaque... Then when u peep thru the tiny hole, you must agree that some light do passes thru...

Dear Pin,
the white is over exposed so the texture of the surface is not appreciable as Steven said. Try to take the picture on a white background to see if you can fool the camera's lighting meter.

I was starting to second guess my initial jade guess, and started to think it possibly agate, but yes, I agree with Tom.. Looks like jade, and a wonderful find Pin !! 

You got this one for a real bargain !

Guys, I am not totally convinced that it is jade, because the pictures are blurred. We still do not see the texture of the surface. Look at the contour of the stone and you will see that it is not neat. Sorry dear Pin for insisting, how do you take your pictures? With a mobile phone may be? Or there was a low level of illumination? If you can, please try again until having a sharp picture.
