Turtle Shell Bottle - Raw, Real & Fake (Part 1 - The Raw Material)

I am a avid fly fisherman for the pass many years until I feel too tired to do this type of extreme fishing in the recent years....... One of my favour place that I went yr after yr was Maldives.... beautiful picture perfect island and sea view !!!

As Fly fisherman, we usually don't fish that much onboard the boat but prefer to walk the terrain in search of fishing spots..... we cover miles & miles of sandy beach each day and we get to see many things that got washed up the beach.

One of the find that I picked up from the beach is a piece of Hawk Bill Turtle Shell... washed up and half buried in the white sand of a Maldivian island.....

The Raw Material

The piece of Turtle Shell is not processed in anyway... just washed with clean water and kept in my drawer for many yrs.....

These pictures are taken with a white backlight....

Close up picture of the turtle shell

Take note of the yellowish lighter area of the shell..... theres a lot of inclusion and pattern within the shell structure.... This is the features that FAKEs cannot duplicate at this point of time within their profitability region.

This is a picture taken with natural light and I think is the outer layer of the shell

This is a picture taken with natural light and should be the inner layer of the shell

Take note of the white pattern on the shell..... its the natural pattern after the shell is bone dry..... to me, esp the inner shell pattern, looks very similar to the common cloud motif that is painted on many Chinese work of art...

OK People... got to sign off the time being, when I have the time, I will continue on the Real Bottle and the Fake Bottle section of the post......

Thanks and hope the information is interesting

Hi,

I was watching your photos, and I found it interesting to share pictures of one item that I have at home.
Could you tell me what is your thought about the turtle skin box that I have at home?
Maybe it is from another spice of turtle?

Thanks! Wink
Albert.

Sorry Albert,

We cannot see your pictures. Photobucket doesn't seem to work.
Can you post them a different way?

Hi Albert,

This is all I see when I try and open your images....!
Is anyone else able to see them?

The forum took a big hit a few months ago and lost many images due to Photobucket suddenly charging huge sum to use images that many had up until then been able to freely link to via forums, blogs, etc..

Myself and most noticeably Charll , and of course others who used photobucket have lost our images..

There is no recovering them....

Albert,

Before this it was possible to see images posted here on the forum WITHOUT having an account.
That is one reason I stopped using Photobucket.
I have no inclination to "update" my account just to view other people's images!

As far as I'm concerned Photobucket can go take a long walk on a short pier......!  Wink

Albert,

I also see what Tom saw .

Could you try just to take some shots of your bottles with mobile phone and  then upload to your PC.
Resize the pictures and attached them to your posts. I do this often for bottles I have yet to add to my own folders on SB.

Guys,
All my pictures I’ve taken are with an iPhone. First,I email them to my computer. Then I save this attachment to a file, and then I choose this new attachment to Forum thread. I hope that helps?

Cheers,
Rube
