It looks like a very nice turtle shell box to me. I don't have much experience on the snuff box, but the box does look like have some age.

Let us waiting for other's opinions.

This thread has been dormant for a while, but since the conversation ended up veering toward snuff boxes, I thought I'd revive it.

Below are some pics of a tortoise shell snuff box. Clearly Chinese themed and, I'm assuming, Chinese fabricated. I have a fairly decent sized collection of snuff boxes, most of them European in origin. This and one other are the exceptions.

I'd love to know how these were made back in the day. The top and bottom fit so perfectly together it's hard to believe modern tools weren't used. But of course there was a lot of ingenuity in the past. We've grown lazy with our 3D printers.  Grin
