Joey,

Attached are a few of my own collection of Li Ru Chen calligraphy bottles.

The first one is a crystal bottle ( 2008 ) where Ru Chen wrote the early Tang dynasty poem [ 春江花月夜 ]. There are 126 characters on each face of the bottle.

Joey,

This is another Ru Chen's bottle ( 2008 winter ), originally in the collection of Master Wang Guanyu. It was featured in Wang's book ' The Story of Snuff Bottle Collection '
( pg. 40 ) written in Chinese and published in November 2012. This book by Wang reminds me of Lila Perry's story.

Ru Chen wrote 382 characters on one face and painted the Ba Po ( The 8 Broken ) on the other. Her text is the Tang Poem [ 韩碑 - the stone tablet of Han Yu ] and the poem was by the Tang poet, Li Shang Yin ( 李商隐 )。

Pat,

This is my third Ru Chen piece of calligraphy of a poem that speaks about a young girl of a certain Cai ( 蔡 ) official during the Han dynasty. She was captured by the barbaric tribe of Xioang Nu (匈奴)....

This bottle has less characters than the earlier two i posted, but the standard was maintained. It is a crystal bottle ( also 2008 ).

Hi Inn Bok

Nice calligraphy!

The poem is by Li Qi (李颀), "Listening to Dong Da playing the Hu Jia" <听董大弹胡笳兼寄语弄房给事> from the Tang Dynasty.

Hu Jia (胡笳) is a musical instrument that originated from the Mongolian. One of the most famous poems is Hu Jia Shi Ba Pai (胡笳十八拍), the Eighteen Songs of Hu Jia which narrated the homesick feeling of Cai Wen Ji (蔡文姬) who was captured by the barbaric Xiong Nu tribe (匈奴) during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Cai Wen Ji was the daughter of the famous writer Cai Yong (蔡邕). She was known to be a talent in literature and music as well.

For your reference.

Regards.

Dear Inn Bok,
SUPERB bottles! I loved the calligraphy and 'Bai Sui Tu' ('Bapo' is so 1990s... Grin) bottle most, but all are what I am aiming for now.

  Dear Richard,
       Great commentary.

Best,

This is my fourth piece of Li Ru Chen's calligraphy bottle ( 2008 / 95mm ). She wrote 231 characters on each face ( excluding the title heading written horizontally on top ).
Do note that it is more difficult to write when the bottle is deep, especially the bottom row ( cantilever effect ).

The poem 石鼓歌 ( In Praise of the Stone Drum - literally ) was by a famous Han dynasty scholar Han Yu ( 韩愈 ). He was appealing to the emperor to preserve the ancient script engraved on stone tablets that shaped like drums. Hence the script is known as the Stone Drum Script ( 石鼓文 - a form of Zhuan script used during the Qin [ 秦] dynasty ).

Hi Inn Bok

Another nice bottle.

However, there may be a typo here.

The poem, "In Praise of the Stone Drum" (石鼓歌) was by Han Yu (韩愈) but should be from the Tang Dynasty instead of the Han Dynasty.

Regards.

Dear all,

These bottles are by Liu Shoubeng( 刘守本 ) of the Beijing School, and they are in collection of CT Lin of Nanyang Group.

The first one ( 2005, reticulated crystal, 6.6 mm ) has the subject of egrets beautifully blended with the balck strains of the crystal.

The second piece ( 2001, crystal, 7.3 mm ) refers to a gathering on a Spring night.

For sharing, please.

Hi all,

Correction in the spelling. Liu Shoubeng should read Liu Shouben !!

The following two bottles ( CT Lin's collection ) are by master Dong Xue ( 董雪 ) useful for our reference for portrait painting :

The first bottle ( 1991, artificial crystal, 72 mm ) features the Chinese artist, Fan Zeng ( 范曾 ) on one side and Dong Xue's calligraphy on the other.

The second bottle ( 2006, reticulated crystal, 90 mm ) features the renowned artist,
Qi Baishi ( 齐白石 ) and miniaturised paintings of Qi on the reversed side.

Most IPSB collectors would know that Dong Xue is a very talented man in portrait painting.

For our sharing.
