Hi guys, I've had this bottle for some years........there's not much I can say about it as it is so plain, although really beautifuly cut. It measures 65mm high. When you have something as plain as this, how do you tell its app. age?
Thanks guys, cheerfuly, Brenda Wink

Beautiful bottle Brenda !!

I think you will find yours also a 19th century, much like a recent bottle shared by Keith.

Lets see what others think while I try to find a similar example to yours..

Brenda,

I agree with George that yours is a lovely bottle, glass I believe.

Regardless of the age, I like the simple and yet neat geometry, including the interior.

Wonder if you can put some light behind the bottle and take another shot of it standing ? This may bring out the entire inside profile a bit more. Treasure it.

Regards,
Inn Bok

Dear Brenda,
This looks like a beautiful plain late 18th / early 19th C. blue glass bottle.
Congratulations,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Like from second fiddle to lead violin...?  Wink

I am not generally too attracted by glass bottles, but really like the colour of yours.

Dear Brenda,
You could easily be the (I hope) proud owner of a bottle made in the Imperial Palace Glass Workshops,
ca.1780-1830. I say that since it is very well made, and with that colour.
I used to have one that colour with a genuine wheel-cut Qianlong nianzhi mark (used 1736-1799), and I know of another with a (much rarer; 1796-1821) Jiaqing nianzhi mark.
I added 10 years into the Daoguang reign to be cautious.  Grin  Wink
Best,
 Joey

I am really happy to see Joey's thoughts on this being a possible Imperial piece Brenda.. !  It crossed my mind, and was hoping someone would say it may be...

Dear George,
Because of the shape, the size, the colour and the refinement of the finish, I felt it was.
I'm glad you also feel that way. I wonder what Tom's opinion is. Or Charll's.
Best,
 Joey

It would be great if it were.......trouble is, with no markings there is no way to tell. Sad  It is very precisely cut though, I must say.

Dear Brenda,
It doesn't necessarily need a mark. The colour, shape and quality are enough for an Imperial attribution.
Best,
 Joey

Dear Joey,

Unfortunately I have no expertise with glass bottles, as I don't generally collect them.
Volume 5 - Glass - is the only volume of the Bloch Collection series that I did not buy, for that very reason.

Hi Joey, It just goes to show that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing........I had thought that because it is so precisely faceted, it must be modern.....for modern tools and techniques could only cut so well, so I thought.  Embarrassed really embarrasing......back to the books!

Dear Brenda,
Knowledge of snuff bottles is like knowledge of foreign languages: If you don't use it, you lose it. So I feel thankful to the Forum for being able to share my knowledge, and sometimes, stuff I thought correct but which I find isn't.  Grin
And I also constantly feel the need to study more.
Best,
 Joey
