Can anyone tell if this is the original top? If so, why no spoon? what type of bottle is this?  Thanks for any assistance.

First it appears that top or stopper is made of the same material as the bottle and would be in my opinion an original top, though a bit over-sized.  The bottle appears to be a synthetic material, a plastic or resin, made to look like amber.  Likely molded.  One reason for no spoon is that many newer, inexpensive, production bottles coming out of China these days do not include spoons.  If you peruse eday you can see any number of bottles of a similar type and you’ll notice that many do not have a spoon.  This is particularly true of new porcelain snuff bottles with matching porcelain tops (no spoon is included).  These are designed to be trinkets or small decorative pieces with no intention for use, thus again no spoon required.

From seeing the 'better' pictures, I see that Charll is correct, as usual. Wink
It is resin, and made as a tourist item or to fool a new collector.
Better luck on future purchases...

Hi JW,

I agree with the comments from Charll and Joey.

To answer your question about a good online reference: Look no further - you have found the online Mecca for information on snuff bottles! There is no other website dedicated to discussion of this topic.

If you want to take a look at some top quality bottles (without inter-action) try these links:
