Hi All :

Saw this bottle and think that the colour is really special and unique......

Is this a 19C bottle ?

The foot of the bottle seems not to be very finely carved.... is that a concern ?

Thanks

Really beautiful piece Pin..

I am not so sure that would be terribly concerned about the lesser quality carved base...  I can not explain why the carver did not do the same quality as the rest of the bottle.. The neck/throat area is real nicely carved..

Trying to place what this is made of...  Could it be a type of jade ?

Nice one, altho its not necessary a snuff bottle, its obviously made of glass.

The base doesn't bother me much. I will vote it 19th..`

Dear Pin,
I share Steven’s opinion that this could not have been meant as a snuff bottle. It has the shape of the ginger jars including the neck which is normally not glazed on them. I imagine that, if meant as a snuff bottle, it should need a special stopper that cover the neck, as the ones of ginger jars, see example below.
On the other hand, I don’t think that it is a small reproduction (mini vase) because if so it should be made of porcelain and not glass.
All in all a strange piece, sorry I have no clue.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Beautiful colour, but I agree that it was probably not intended to be a snuff bottle. Also, it is possible that the lip was damaged, and has been ground down later on. The neck looks too short.
