I want to show this French Anglo Arab Horse painted bottle, because of the extra large seal.

Not an exceptional bottle by any means and it may seem a bit crazy, but thinking of buying it just beause of how unusual the seal is.

Has anyone ever seen a seal like this before within an inside painted bottle ?

Hi  George

The  seal    says  ( I think ...  not   sure about the   1st  character)   专文画苑 = "monographs  artists' village"

I   suspect the  seal is  only  big because  the    writing  is  also  big  : both  english and  Chinese ( neither  language  written  very  gracefully)

Maybe  Richard  can  comment

Cheers  Peter

I had not seen this kind of use for the reverse side of a bottle until seeing some of Bills..

I find it kind of odd that an artist would not use that side of a bottle for an additional scene or script. Like you say, "neither written very gracefully"

Thanks for the help with the seal Peter !  Smiley

Hi Peter and George

The seal reads Yi Wen Hua Yen (艺文画苑) which translate to Yi Wen Art Studio.

Based on my personal opinion, this is should not be a old bottle, it is signed as Wang Wei painted in Spring of Xin Yi which corresponds to 2001 painted at the Capital. The text layout doesn't seems correct too. The Chinese text is written from left to right, probably to be aligned with the English text above it. However, the conventional way is to write the Chinese text from right to left.

The text on the seal however, is written from right to left.

Hopes this helps.

Hi Richard

Thnks  for the  correction  .  Is the   artist Wang Wei  王伟 ?

If  so,  I  doubt  it  is  THE  Wang Wei   who   paints  much  better than this  :  he has a  kind  if  surrealistic   style. I have seen a  few of  his  bottles :   quite  nice  but  not   really my  taste  ( see  my  data  base)

Cheers  Peter

Hi Peter

From the signature, it is Wang Wei.

However, the Chinese character for the "Wei" is not exactly the same as the one you mentioned. You may want to compare this with the other Wang Wei's bottle that you have. On the other hand, on closer examination, I noted that he wrote the Wei (伟) character with the same stroke as the "made by" (作). Therefore, it could mean the same name.

Just my observations.

Regards.

Hi  Rchard

Thanks.  If  you  look in the DB  you  will see  several bottles  by  the   real  Wang Wei  and  his  handwriting  looks nothing  like this  horse  bottle (  he  writes  much better ) , not to  mention then fact that  his  painting  skill  is  far   far higher  and    his  style is  completely different .

I advise not to  invest  in  buying this  horse  bottle

Cheers  Peter

Hi Peter

I fully agreed with you.

This bottle in my opinion, is of low quality with many errors both in design and layout.
