Hidden Meaning of Chinese Art" by Terese Tse Bartholomew. Published in 2006 by The Asian Art Museum, San francisco.

Approximately 252 pages and printed in Hong Kong. Size approximately 23.5 cm by 31 cm with book jacket on hard coppy.

Teresse Tse Bartholomew is currator of Himalayan Ary and Chinese Decorative Art at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.

To briefly quote from the book jacket :

Can decorative objects increase ones wealth,happiness or longevity ? Tradotionaly many chinese have believed thay could - provided they incluse the appropriate auspicious symbold. ........

Auspicious symbols  in Chinese art are often in the form of rebuses - visual puns. Because many words in Chinese share the same pronunciation, there isa weath of opportunities for sharing punning and over the centuries many rebuses have developed established meanings. ..............

A rough idea of price (July 2nd 2014) from ebay is $ 60 for the paperback and $ 75 for the hardcover ( plus postage) .

This book has come up before..

It just so happens that I finally found a hard cover copy the other day for 45.00..  A little bonus that it is signed by her too..

I am really excited for it to arrive  !
