Hi All :

Saw these bottle and some how it does not look like a normal layered bottles that is carved down.

Its seemd like the later layer is spray onto the already carved surface by a air brush or something...but on one picture that show the mouth of the bottles, it still seems that theres remaining of a 2nd layer that is carved down....... actually, I am not even sure if its glass to start with .....

Anyone has any idea ?

These are being sold as a type of jade.. I have seen these before.. On the run right now, will look for other candidates for you, but my best guess at the moment, if it is jade, then possibly Dushan type jade..

You may be right Steven.. Now that you have me looking closer, there sure are some areas that look like resin.

Are these heavy enough to be stone YeePin ?

Surely resin to me. It is evident that the decoration is not carved but moulded instead.
Kind regards

Hi All :

I dont have the bottles......... its just browsing thru ebay and i come across these and tot that its something very different from the rest of the bottles....

I agree that its resin and its probably not do difficult to mold the bottles and then spray a white decorative layers on top of molded designs.

Thanks a lot

Resin can be quite heavy, especially if not hollowed out too well. A much more obvious way of telling if it is glass or jade is by its coldness to the touch when compared to resin. Of course, that is assuming you have access to the bottle to handle it.  Wink

I see what look like minute pin holes on the surface. This tells me it is either badly made glass, or resin. I opt for resin.

PS: YeePin, I was writing this when you confirmed that you do not have the bottle in your hands.

I have held a few of these in China and to me they seem more like composite sandstone of some sort... not sure that makes sense but that's what I thought at the time.  On the other hand the examples I held did appear to be carved instead of molded.  I can not say whether the one Yee Pin posted is carved here or not, but it appears that it is.  Also, they were quite heavy in weight which would point against resin in my view, although Tom could be right.

Pat,

Could a composite sandstone have tiny pit marks in its surface? That may be what I am reading as pinholes.

Yes, the one and only similar one I held was also not resin.. I thought it could be a type of jade, but could well have been soapstone..

All,

The artificial stone countertop manufacturing business in China is huge and is a primary source of worldwide supplies.  Besides recrushing or recycling the material, what do you think they do with all the subgrade and scrap material?  My bixi bottle that is shown on the link below I've finally determined is a made out of a fine quartzite sand and resin composite countertop material.

Hi All :

I think they use these material to fake other items like pen holder etc and try to imitate Zitan Wood
Those are really heavy and look pretty real too........
