Dear Tom,
in Italian, "breccia" is a fissure, so "brecciata" means that it has many fissures, a crackled stone. "Brecchiata" is then wrong, but may be that it has been adopted that way, as many words are wrongly adopted.
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

Thanks you for correcting my bad spelling!

I did not mean to say that 'breccia' looks like puddingstone, only that George's word 'breacated' reminded me of the word 'brecciated' (which is derived from 'breccia').

Regards,
Tom

He  very kindly sold it to me when I visited him. he was under the impression that top collectors sold bottles out of their collections.

Dear Joey,

I am surprised to hear this is NOT so. I always had the impression (ever since reading Lilla Perry's book in 1972) that collectors regularly got together to exchange / barter / sell / buy bottles from each other.

Dear all,
this is a conglomerate bottle that was in the former lot of bottles that I purchased, unfortunately sold.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

I hope you got a good price for this bottle. It looks like a very nice example from the Daoguang period.

Dear Tom,
Many do; some don't. Some, like B.W., have boxes of 'for sale' bottles (60 to 100 bottles!), but some can be tempted to sell bottles they'd not intended to. I will buy, but I don't sell in that situation. I will only sell through a dealer or friend, and have only done that 3 times in my collecting career: a big weed-out of 33 bottles in Nov.1980, which I sold through Sotheby's (and would have been screwed but for M. & C. S.); the bottles I sold through Clare C.(then C.L.) in 1991, when I decided to focus on IPSBs, Jades, and B & Ws; and 2009, when I gave away about 40 VMIPSBs as Jewish New Year gifts (including about 26 Suo Zhenhai which I'd bought for US$30-50 each, when I needed distraction from my mom's treatment in 2000-2004).
Best,
 Joey

Been a little quiet, so here is a soapstone conglomerate from within, Chinese Snuff Bottles, Bloch collection ( #300 ). The pale greyish matrix suffused with a darker matrix and flakes of varying size. Tried to get a good pic, but this really does not do the bottle justice.. The greyish matrix is much more striking in the book..  Pretty bottle..

5.5 cm, 1800 to 1900

Dear George,

I agree with Pat on both sentiments!
I'm under the weather with severe bronchitis, so I will be keeping comments short and sweet. Wink
Best,
