Did not really know what to make of this when I first saw it.. Still don't ..

The dark green "mottled" glass made me think the bottle could be 19th century..

The turquoise, coral, and jade stones are set in what could be Mongolian style gilded setting..

Does anyone recognize who the people are in the photos ?

George,

I have never encountered a bottle like this before, so unable to offer any useful comment.

From the fact that I haven't seen one like it in 40 years of collecting suggests to me that it may be modern.....very modern indeed.

Since it is hand blown, would it be safe to say it has a little age ?

The bottle itself...maybe. The decoration...not likely.

George,

I have seen a group or category of bottles in past auction catalogs and publications by Chris Randall that are glass with a medallion inset.  Beneath the medallion, which is clear glass, there are typically rice paper paintings from what I recall.  However, the shape of the bottles are not the same as the bottle you illustrate.   Every aspect of the bottle you have here screams to me as not being old.

George,
Sorry, it is crap de la crap.
Age? I give it 5-10 years tops.
Don't they blow glass any more today? Why would it's being blown mean anything?
It looks like one side has a photo of Puyi's wife, but that means nothing, re.age.
Best,
  Joey

Tom

Can you please send me pictures of the bottles you are referring to in Chris Randall's catalogs.  I have one of those with a landscape painting inset.   Thanks!

Pat,

It will be the weekend before I can consider getting to your request.  Work and community involvement issues are keeping very busy right now.  If you do not get the information this weekend, drop me a reminder next week.

Pat,

I did not find the reference by Chris Randell regarding the bottles similar to what George has post here, but I'll keep looking.  In the meantime here are the two bottles that I have seen recently.  These appear to be reverse painting on clear glass insets.  The auction house is calling these "Cased Glass" snuff bottles.  No age estimate was provided.

Cased Glass, round flattened flask with painted buildings and landscape medallion, small surface chip, Ht. 2 3/4".  Link: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/16164604_cased-glass-and-inside-painted-snuff-bottle

Cased Glass, cricket paintings behind clear glass medallion.  Link: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/4505429

As I find other references I'll attempt to add to this thread.  Charll

Thank you so much for your research Charll...

I wonder if the term "case glass" is suppose to be the same as a molded glass as compared to blown ?

I have seen other overlay IP's like this ones you shared here before.. Did not think they were old, but the one flat paneled ( medicine bottle ? ) I think late 19th century..

After the input of my bottle not likely being old, I reluctantly listed it on eBay after loosing some interest in keeping it because of my mistake of thinking it was old..  I still may pull it off and keep it.. I trust the judgement of you all that it is not old, yet I am still perplexed by it..

The photos on my bottle are very grainy.. Perhaps rice paper ? Not sure if photographs were ever done on rice paper..

I think the deal breaker for my bottle being old is the gilded gold in Mongolian style frame for the photos.. To new..

Thanks again Charll  Smiley
