Hello friends of the Chinese snuff bottle! I am from Zurich, Switzerland and I am "snuffling" since 1998. In this time I gathered some experience in the field due to various contacts with members and dealers from the ICSBS to which I belong also. My enthusiasm is such that I recently published a two-volume Kindle book on my collection at Amazon which you are invited to dowload. I am mostly interested in good classic bottles of all kinds. However, I find the very modern inside painted ones very interesting also. The only bitter drop in the soup is the pricing. The bottles are so small and are yet often manyfold as dear as any Jeroboame bottle  of Château Lafite-Rothschild 1985   Wink

Besides our common topic I have many other fields of interest, such as .....

Welcome to the Forum Ulrich!

I am so glad that you finally figured out how to post your first post.Smiley

I bet that you might find some of your friends here, since a few of our members are from ICSBS. I would love to see  and download your collection, would you provide a link?

Hi Steven. Again many thanks for your help. Sometimes you don't find the wood but see only many trees.

As for links: I did make some sort of a website on Snuffles once but it was not good and subsequently I lost and forgot my password to the ftp server. Now I have written a book on my collection (printed and since yesterday as an ebook for Kindle). Anyone who is interested can search my name on the Kindle website and download it (two volumes!) or watch some of its pages.

Else: I can send you a .mobi or a .pdf file for your own gusto but this not the same as a link in html.
Perhaps we have a webmaster who could make a webpage out of the contents?

Tip: Check your regular email within the hour. I hope yor server allows 2x55 MB.

best regards

Dear Ulrich,
welcome within us! I am from Italy and besides snuff bottles (not so much about very modern IP), on which I am relatively new, I am interested in Chinese ceramics. I travel from Milan to Stuttgart generally once or two a year. I have been there last month and will probably go again in June. Who knows I can stop in Zurich and shake your hand?
If I am not wrong (George please correct kme) you can upload the PDF files here on the forum.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Ciao Giovanni!
I am agreeably surprised to meet here a neighbour from Lombardy. I shall be pleased to see you when you are passing by to Stuttgart. Just give me a mail or a phone call before taking your next trip.
I share your passion for Chinese ceramics as well but for collecting it I don't have enough space. However, I collected old aircraft once, but that's another story ---> you have to buy an airfield for that.
I took notice of your flaming war about worthless snuffles offered for high prices and I was very much amused. Robert Kleiner told me a couple of years ago that the market is splitting. Those bottles over 1000 USD (I rather think 5000) will continue to rise and the rest will perish, so don't buy at places like ebay or the like. Agree?

Attached a porcelain bottle I took from Robert Hall. It has five roosters ...

best

Ulrico

Dear Ulrich,
thank you very much for the friendly message. Well, it seems that you understood the reason for my nickname here, hehe. Your bottle is really nice. Here is the link where I presented myself when I joined the forum; there you can see my five roosters bottle.

I live in Piacenza, about 60 km South from Milan. If you wish, you can contact me privately by sending a personal message, so I will send you my email.
Don't miss to contact me if you will ever come to Italy.
Because you collected old aircraft (I can’t imagine how to do that, first problem, space!) may be you would like to know that in 1968 I was living in South Brazil, in a small town called Alegrete. There I did fly on a an  American aircraft from 1948, the Globe Swift GC1B. Here is a link where you can see that airplane which they still use in the local Aero club.

Hi Ulrich,

Welcome to the forum! I too am a member of the ICSBS, living in Bangkok.

Since you brought up the subject, I cannot begin to comprehend how anyone collects aircraft. I find it hard enough to find space for much smaller items! What types do you (did you) collect? My grandfather learned to fly on a Maurice Farman bi-plane in 1915. An example now hangs over passengers' heads inside Hong Kong airport.

Regards,
Tom

Hi Ulrich,

Welcome to the Forum !

I am from SIngapore. Trust that you would enjoy the formal and informal exchanges on this Forum.

On old aircrafts, I managed to see a good collection at the Munich Technical Museum, very educational. To collect planes, you need some desert place like the one in the US where old commercial planes were ' parked ' waiting for new customers to lease or buy !

I have good and fond memories of certain part of Switzerland I visited in the past ( for work and for leisure ).
The fresh fish I had for lunch at Interlaken was memorable ( in 1979 ). I went to Zurich in that trip when I was on my company's assignment in Mulhouse of France. The train ride back from Basel was quite an experience too.

Regards,

Hello Inn-Bok

You are right, our group had much difficulty finding suitable airfields. We had a Russian Yak52 which crashed because of drunken pilot, and a De Havilland DH82 Tiger Moth. Since this plane is now more than 75 years old, also the crew members lose more and more their airworthyness due to medical reasons and age. I am getting seventy this year.

So a change in hobby seemed to be indicated.

Did we by chance meet at the ICSBC-convention 2002 in Singapore?

regards,

Ulrich

Dear joearp
Yes, Robert Kleiner .... a fine and real gentleman. It was always a pleasure with him. He has appraised my bottles a decade ago and forbad me to buy enameled but encouraged me to look for inside painted bottles since I would have the eye for those. And he had fair prices. I hope that Victoria continues his work.
best,  Ulrich

Hello Joey!
Is it a fact that you speak yiddish? Are there different dialects in this language? I always thought that tuches was spelt toches and that it meant someting like a face. Correct? Grin Grin
