Hi Charll and Tom

You are right.

I have only come across one similar bird cage glass overlay in an auction years ago but this group of bird cage bottles are indeed rare.

Interestingly, these bottles, 25 in total appeared to be from the same workshop/craftsman as the workmanship are very similar. I suspected that they may be commissioned by a rich gentlemen to complement his other hobby of keeping bird. I will introduce these bottles in more detail under a separate thread.

For now, let move on to more photos on the exhibition.

1-3. The lion dance performance before and during the official opening ceremony.
4. The lion dance welcoming the arrival of the guests of honour, Dr Lily Neo and Mr Denis Low.
5-6. The official opening ceremony.
7-10. The presentation of tokens of appreciation by the artists to the guests of honour, sponsors and organisers.

What a nice event !

Are the European Composers painted by Wu Yulong ? Bill Patricks has a similar set ?  I always have a peek at that set when I go to Bill's site.. The portraits are so nicely painted and if I were wealthy would likely pay the price Bill is asking.. I would not have thought there would have been another set though..

Thanks again for sharing all the pictures !

Hi George

No. This set is an unusual collaboration by two young artists, the portraits are done by Dong Wen, the daughter of Dong Xue. The calligraphy on the other side is written by Dylan Hsu.

Steven,

I do know Zhang Lei for a while as he came to Singapore a few years ago to exhibit and I am in direct contact with him.

Regards.

Hi Richard,

More great photos - thanks for sharing! Hard to tell if I am drooling more over the bottles or the food !!!

By the way, I like the look of the 'token of appreciation' that you received (a classical landscape). Is this a blow up of one of the bottle paintings?

Hahaha Tom, you can drool on both!  Grin

No, the landscape painting is not related directly to any bottle.

Regards.

Hi YT

Yee Pin was not at the auction but I do not know whether he bought any bottle from the exhibitor.

Regards.
