When I found this one, it struck me as quite unusual..

Doublle peanuts carved from agatized Indonesian fossil coral..

2 1/4" tall.

Not entirely sure if going to keep it, but certainly would be a nice double to keep..

I do not have anything to compare it to, but want to guess a date towards late 19th century..

Nice found, love the texture on the bottle!

How does it hollowed?

Somehow, I will vote it contemporary. Tongue but will let the stone experts have their comments.Smiley

It is not well hollowed to the point that the walls are nice and thin, but it is nicely hollowed..

You may well be right about it being contemporary Steven...

Looking forward to hearing what others think ..

George,

An unusual bottle indeed! I like the material - very appropriate for peanuts. Maybe the material inspired the carver.

How do you know it is fossilized coral.....and from Indonesia? From the pictures alone the markings don't appear typical of coral.

Any stoppers? I would say it is modern.

Hi George

I agreed with Steven and Tom that it is contemporary.

And it does not look like coral to me either.

Regards.

I am really familiar with Indonesian Fossil coral.. Have worked a ton of it, and purchased it by the pound back in the day, and cabbed at least several hundred cabochons of this material..

This particular material is naturally agatized..  To the point that it offers these beautiful colors.. Much like if you took a regular (whitish/light yellow ) Indonesian material and heat treated it..

Thanks for the confirmation George. You clearly know your Indonesian corals!
Now that I look at the images carefully I see some tell-tale fossil florets in the last shot, on the bottle's base.

Tom,

When George mentioned ' Indonesian coral '. I really thought of coral in its normal sense of the word until i go into this website....
http://www.indonesianfossilcoral.com/

Quite a different story. A new learning for me though.
