Hi All

This being the first day of the Lunar New Year,  I am starting this new thread to feature bottle with horse as the subject.

An agate bottle of rounded shape with clear greyish brown colour background carved using the transparent clear honey brown skin carved with two horses side by side. The other side of the bottle left plain.

Enjoy!

Richard

Richard,

I come to expect nothing less than outstanding bottles with your posts and thus do not comment as often as I should.  You've got to have some mediocre bottles in the collection that you can surprise us with every so often.  Grin

Since you stated what I hope is going to be a yearly thread theme for each Chinese New Year, here is my contribution from a previous post.

Two Horses: High grade agate with a skillfully carved cameo of two horses under a pine tree. Sufficiently hollowed to the point that bottle floats.  The surface of the bottle is quite smooth and polished to a mirror finish.  Suitable matching agate stopper with a bone spoon.  Size: 5.2cm in height (without stopper) x 5.2cm wide x 4.0cm thick.  Contemporary chalcedony bottle which makes use of white banding or other mineral impurities that became locked in the agate structure when it settled of as a silica gel solution during formation.

This is one of my better horse themed bottles, Charll

Sharing an unusual agate horse bottle with the carving done on the inside.  Never seen another one like it. Modern (60s/70s) but highly unusual ...6cm tall.  Acquired from Curt Lam, Forum Member, Hong Kong.

A cameo agate bottle of rounded shape with clear greyish brown colour background carved using the white skin with a horse tethered to a pillar. A four character inscription Du li Chao Gang (独立朝纲) enclosed in a rectangular panel of rounded corners is neatly carved above it using the white skin. The other side of the bottle left plain.

Du li Chao Gang literally means "the only outstanding one" and is an indirect indication to wish someone's promotion to a high official post.

Enjoy!

Stunning 'horse' bottles being posted here. I am afraid I don't have any horse-related ones to share.

Richard, setting the very high standard of quality....as usual.

Charll, I have some modern agates which are technically and stylistically so close to yours, that they are most probably from the same workshop.

Pat, your bottle is unique! I have never before seen or even heard of an inside CARVED bottle. The mind boggles at how that was achieved.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your compliments!

Here is another bottle with a variation to the theme "May you be promoted to a Marquis soon" with the horse and the monkey.

Carved on a three-layered agate bottle using the white skin as the horse and another layer of coffee brown skin as the saddle, with a sun with Taichi symbol using the similar technique  above it. A bee carved using the black skin on the right above some rockworks and a Lingzhi in brown, The other side carved with a mischievous monkey hiding under a tree carved using the black inclusions.

Enjoy!

Richard
