To all members of the Forum:
I have the sad duty of reporting the sudden passing of Robert Kleiner, the London Snuff Bottle dealer, due to a heart attack. He leaves a grieving widow, Maggie, and daughter, Victoria, and a lot of grieving friends. I was one of those.
I don't know if his dealings with everyone were as pleasant and honest and aboveboard as they were with me, but hope so.
I found this out moments ago, thanks to a message from Richard. Thank you for the heads-up, Richard.

I am grief stricken with this post.  Robert has been so kind to me for the past three years and I have purchased some wonderful bottles from him that I absolutely love.  Thanks Joey for letting us know this sad news.  I will be in touch with Maggie and Victoria whom I also adore.  This is a very sad day for all of us who hold Robert dear.  Jo

Robert was a gentleman possessed of vast knowledge and experience.  He will be missed by many who appreciated his professionalism and his willingness to share his knowledge.  I dealt with Robert on many occasions when he was with Sothebys and always felt that I was dealing with a friend.

I just received this intel from JerryL's wife:
Robert Kleiner's  funeral is on Friday,  24th  January at 10am.  It is at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Cadogan Street, London. I plan to attend. I already got Mass Cards for his widow and daughter from the Church Of The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Israel.
Shabbat Shalom,
   Joey

Dear All,
Maggie, Robert's widow, contacted a mutual friend, and asked people to send bright flowers, to make the Church more cheerful for the service.
If anyone is interested in sending floral gifts, the flowers have to be at the Chelsea Funeral Directors by Thursday morning London time,  23.Jan.
They recommend Maryjanevaughan.co.uk
Mention that it is for Robert Kleiner's funeral at St. Mary's RC Church, Cadogan St., London, on Friday, 24th.Jan.
I have authorised my friend to buy flowers on my behalf.
Best to all,
   Joey

Tomorrow is Robert Kleiner's 3rd 'Yahrzeit' (Memorial Day, in German and in Yiddish).
I spoke to his widow Maggie, today.
May his memory be blessed.
Shabbat Shalom and Blessings for Health and Prosperity to All,
Joey

I sympathize with those of you who knew him. He left a great legacy and I have enjoyed his book.

Dear Joey,

Mr. Kleiner's passing was indeed a great loss for the world snuff bottle collection and appreciation. I wish I had started this hobby earlier to know him. He'll always Ben remembered for his legacy.

May he rest in peace...

Shabbat Shalom,
Samson

Thanks for the reminder.  I was so privileged to know Robert, Maggie and Victoria, even though it was only for a few years.  I have many fond memories and appreciate so much his many kindnesses towards David and I as new collectors.  Some of my favorite bottles were purchased from him and I have many of the books he wrote on the subject. We are all grateful for his love of snuff bottles and willingness to share his knowledge with other collectors.  I look forward to seeing Maggie and Victoria in London later in the year.  Joey thank you so much for reminding us of his passing.

Dear Jo,

Maggie called me as I was doing morning prayers ( I was a bit late...  Roll Eyes Cheesy), but at a point where I could stop to take the call. We talked for 7 or 10 minutes about our respective holidays just past (Christmas and Hanuka, and New Year's 2017), the upcoming ICSBS London convention in Nov., and ended the call.

After I finished my prayers (7 min. later), I thought and checked the date of Robert's passing (z"l), and returned her call. We talked about Robert and how she and Victoria are doing for about
10 min. and again rang off.

Yes, anyone who reads his publications knows how much he contributed to scholarship and enjoyment of snuff bottles. Anyone who met and got to know him, knows what a fine person he was.
Especially after he'd resigned from Sotheby's and was his own boss. At least, this was my personal experience.
    Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey
