I don't know the carat purity, but can tell they are not plated.

Not sure if the floral pattern with the coral cabochons are suppose to represent a specific plant life..

3" tall and each are pretty heavy at three ounces.

It would be great if someone could tell me what the script on the sides read.. All four sides show the same script.

Geroge,

Excellent piece you have.

Based on the side you have posted, the three Chinese characters encirlcled are the same word " Fu " ( 福 = blessing ).
How about the other side ? same characters ?

Is the SB of Tibetan origin ?

George,

A very nice pair! I am no expert, but I would hazard a guess that these bottles are Tibetan.

I am not eligible to say its a Mongolia or Tibetan, but I found one very similar with the silver work of your bottles.

George,

The base of the silver SB appears to have the word ' CHINA ' engraved on it.

It reminded me of the threads posted last year or before regarding the US customs requiring Chinese glass bottles entering US to have the origin of make incised on the base.

Steven, George,

When I once asked locals in UlaanBataar why there were no 'Mongolian style' snuff bottles among all the bottles I saw in Mongolia, their answer was: "Because they are Tibetan!" The one illustrated in your link is what I would call Sino-Tibetan - the jade work is Chinese, and it has been finished off in silver and semi-precious stones in Tibetan (or maybe Mongolian) taste.

Here is a group of snuff bottles that are reputedly Mongolian. Although I couldn't find any Tibetan snuff bottles for comparison, I am posting images of a small container showing typical Tibetan silverwork.

George may well be right about his pair being Mongolian; maybe from Inner Mongolia (the province inside the PRC) rather than Outer Mongolia.
