Dear David,
I agree with Tom & George. Thank you. Oddly enough, there was a display of Agate snuff bottles in Hong Kong, and the caption on one bottle was " Two scholars playing 'Go' ". I asked if they were Japanese scholars, and was told that they were Chinese. I replied that in that case they were playing 'Weiqi'. The person insisted it was 'Go' and I said that in China, it's proper name was 'Weiqi'.
That is the Pinyin spelling, incidentally.
I was quite shocked that people at Christie's Hong Kong would not know a simple detail like the difference between the Chinese and Japanese names for a board game as prominent in Chinese culture and as well illustrated,  as 'Weiqi/Go'.
Best,
Joey

You're welcome. It does brings back some more good memories for me to see that 2nd bottle, thank you posting it and discussing it online..

Hi Joey,

It is amazing how hard it is for people to change their concepts or thinking after accepting it.

Cheesy I'll try to remember it is spelled Weiqi.

Thank you,
David
