Calligraphy Blue and White Porcelain Snuff Bottle-

Soft paste porcelain, painted in underglaze blue with an inscription and seal, Qing zhi, ‘Respectfully made’, between a wide band of crested waves encircling the base and bats among clouds on the shoulders.  Covered overall in an ivory-tinted crackle glaze, with the signature ‘shu ting zhuren ti’ – ‘Composed by the Master of the Central Pavilion’,  Period 1840-1880.  (Bottle 104, In Search of a Dragon, from the Collection of Joseph Baruch Silver, by Robert Kleiner)

The bottle shown here is similar or could be part of the same series as the bottle referenced in the Joey Silver Collection.  It was just list and sold for $1225.00 US on Ebay.   The bottle is also similar to Lot 1007, The Hildegard Schonfeld Collection of Fine Chinese Snuff Bottles, Christies, Thursday 21 March 2013.  However, the Schonfed bottle has a distinctive Daoguang seal in underglaze blue on the base.

The intended purpose of this post is to provide a comparison thread of underglaze porcelain snuff bottles with calligraphy as the main theme.

Enjoy, Learn and Absorb,

Charll

Dear Charll,
Great idea. But mine has a nicer, and possibly original, stopper.  Grin
Is there any way you could do a comparison by juxtaposing my bottle with the closest view of the one you posted?
Interestingly, they are all soft paste. Many times that is a sign of a 'scholarly' bottle...
Thank you for starting this thread.
Shabbat Shalom,
 Joey

Charll,

Is the bottle you illustrated above from eBay? Or one you have just acquired? The photography looks too professional for a typical eBay post.

The bottle just sold on eBay, and the photo's are from the seller Mark Walberg Fine Arts and Antiques.  He always does a great job with his photos.  I’ve purchased three bottles from him in the past.  I was trying for this bottle, but the price was more than I was willing to put out at the moment.  Not being able to see and handle the bottle, my concern was as Joey put it, it did not appear to be quite as good as his.

Dear Charll,
have you seen this bottle on Gotheborg? It looks interesting to me:

I apologize with the members that are not also members of Gotheborg. The link will not work for them.

Charll,
I'm sorry if you misunderstood. I only thought my bottle's stopper was better. The bottle itself looked every bit as good as mine. As a matter of interest, how much did it fetch?
