I just tried out the Bing translator.. http://www.bing.com/translator

I find it necessary to double check..

So first I type in English what I want to say, and when I get the results, I run that script back through again translating back to English to see just how accurate it translated..

I find that being as direct as possible in a sentence by using as many verbs as possible helps...

George

Good that  you are  learning  to use  a  translation  engine

Google  translate also  works  very  well.

The  key  is  to  write   in short , simple   , closed  sentences  :   subject  -  verb  - object -  full  stop.

Do not  string long  sentences   together   using   conjunctions,  as  I am   doing  in this  sentence   using the  conjunction 'as'  , because  it  makes  it  much  harder  for the   search engine to  work properly.

Avoid  indiomatic   words    completely !

(One  of  the  biggest problems   of  search engines   translating  from Chinese    to  english is  that  often Chinese   written  by  a  Chinese  person - especially  literary  Chinese -  is  composed of  very long  sentences,  with lots  of  conjunctions  and  commas .  But I notice that  Mr  Wang  Dajiang  is  keeping  his   Chinese  very  simple -  in  fact  I can  read  it  directly   with my own  level  of    written   Chinese  capability)

Cheers

Peter

Yes, this all became apparent to me quickly as I began using it..

Your 100% correct, and hope others take note of this.. It is pretty important that each of us take just an extra moment to do our best towards replying to our new Chinese members, and learn how to make a translator like Google/Bing work for us..

I mentioned earlier, that it is not enough to simply type in a string of English text, translate it to Chinese, and post that to reply to a Chinese posting... I find the best results are to take that translated script, and run that back through the translator, and translate from Chinese to English and view what it says... This gives the opportunity to remove, edit, words that are unnecessary, confusing, and or translated incorrectly..

Now take that English translation and translate it again into Chinese..
