Hi George

Sometimes   when working  on a long posting with  lots  of  attachments  the  forum  times  out

On at least one occasion  I lost the  complete   stuff  I wrote

Can  you do something to  fix this  please?

I will check.. But not a lot I can really do..

It happens to me on occasion as well. To safeguard against loosing a post like you mention, I alsways "copy" the entire post prior to actually posting it. Then if it times out, I can simply paste it in a newley created thread.

Timing out does happen from time to time..

This happens when you take too long to complete a post. It happened to me a few time too.

As George suggested, copy your post and paste it again.

Another way is to use your Back arrow on your browser to go back to the last page. Usually, your post will be in the cache and will still shows up.

Thanks for the  advice and  yes I  have   discovered the  tricks  you    mentioned

But  surely there  must  be some  way  to extent  the  time out period on the   website

Is there?

The forum is hosted through a company called SMF. They in turn use outside server services. So it is the servers that cause the time outs.

It is out of the control of SMF..

Just one of those internet trials and trubulations ..  Smiley

Yes, it is probably a web server setting to monitor the activity level.

If there is no activity for a certain time, it will flash out the "session timed out" error mainly for security reasons. They may be able to adjust the duration to a longer period.
