Hello, I have an interesting bottle here and was hoping someone could help me out with it. However, the only information I have available is when it was made. Allegedly it was suppose to be made somewhere between 1890-1913.

Regards,

Hi Lilrhinotx,

Not sure how to call you..

Anyway, a very attractive bottle, I am not so familiar with metal bottle, atho I have a couple of it, I have seen some very similar ones with yours, but with the enamel filled in the center ring area. I might be wrong, but my guess it was supposed to be made mid-late 20th let's  say 1960-1980.

That my 2 cents, will let the experts here chip in to help you out.

I can not shed any light on either of the two metal bottles shown...

I am not usually attracted to Tibetan style bottles like yours Steven, but this one I do like...

Lilrhinotx,
I would agree with Steven's opinion. It looks like it should have been fired with a layer of enamel on the front and reverse, and I would give the dating as  ca.1950-1990. Interesting name. Is it Texian, as Steven would say?

 Steven,
Someone from Texas is a Texan, although I see your logic flow (a person from Italy is an Italian, etc.).
I really like the Mongolian/Tibetan type bottle you posted. I would date it ca.1850-1900, and a superior example of the type.

Best,
  Joey

Dear Joey,

Ofcoz you are right about the Texan.Smiley

A question for you, you can see there is some dirt or rusty or whatever it was called on the bottles , do I need to clean it to make it look better, or just leave it as its. someone told me to use baking soda to clean it, not sure if it worth to try.

Dear Steven,
I am sure that if you will do some chemical treatment to your bottle you will no more like it after that. The patina will be lost and it will look worst than a new one. I would just give to the bottle a strong rubbed with a rough cloth, no more.

Dear Giovanni,
You took the words right out of my mouth! Thank you. Smiley
Steven,
The Texian/Texan stuff is the English teacher in me trying to get out.  Wink
The patina is its charm and also helps show its age, since one can't fake genuine patina. Look at all the bottles we've pointed out to people which had obviously FAKED patina! Do as little as possible. Giovanni's suggestion is golden.

Lilrhinotx,

My initial question is the bottle brass or bronze?  From the coloration and soldered top, it appears to be a cast bronze bottle.
The twin fish (yu) design is likely one of the ‘Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism’ which symbolizes freedom from restraint.

Charll,
You may well be correct. It could easily be bronze. That would make it 'nicer' in my opinion, since I consider bronze a more 'noble' metal than brass. I don't think that impacts on its age.

Joey,

I was thinking of the similarity with the color tone found on Japanese bronze pieces.

Dear Inn Bok,
You are right. The colour of the metal on the first bottle posted is indeed similar to that of Japanese Bronzes. Thank you for pointing that out. Do you think it may be Japanese-made?
