Dear George,
really wonderful color. Because I didn't know what is St Patrick Day I did a google search where of course I found what it is but with my great surprise I found that here in Italy it is only celebrated in three localities, all them here around where I live! So funny, I never heard that before, so thank you also for letting me know the customs of my area! Grin Grin

I have heard that Italians will use any excuse for a celebration !  Cheesy

I found out that Florence hosts several days of music and dancing.

In Rome, there is a Irish Celtic Ball March 18, and 8 hours of pub crawling on both the 17th and 18th where 20 euros gets you all the beer and wine you can drink in an hour !

Dear George,
do you have Irish origins? May be you will like to know that one of the places nearby here where St Patrcik is celebrated is a big village called Bobbio. That is one of the more important places of Christianity because of an Irish Saint. Better than my words, you will find the description in English here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobbio_Abbey
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,
I was born on St. Patrick's Day, 17.March.1957, in Toronto Canada, one of the biggest Italian cities in the world ( Grin). When my mother of blessed memory was carrying me down to be discharged by the hospital, the nurse, who was Irish, asked why I was not named Patrick, since I was born on the Saint's day. My mom said that not a lot of Jewish boys were named Patrick funnily enough...  Cheesy
My birthday also fell on a Jewish Holy Day, Shushan Purim (the day when Purim is celebrated in cities which were walled in the time of Joshua, Moses' successor as leader of the Children of Israel). This is the day that Purim is celebrated in Jerusalem (which was walled 3400 years ago), where I've lived since 1973. So I primarily live where my birthday is celebrated as a National Holiday (Shushan Purim in Jerusalem, Israel; St. Patrick's Day in Bunclody, Ireland).
Shabbat Shalom,
     Joey
