Although there are many very nice carved stone bottles being sold out there, aside from Jades, I can not seem to get excited about most..

Maybe because of having worked with so many different minerals it takes a lot to get the wow factor to kick in.

It actually surprises me that with all the really stunning and readily available minerals out there, that we do not see any bottles carved from them.. If I could afford it, would love to send off some nice chunks of some stunning minerals to be carved into bottles..

I think it was in Bob Steven's book where he mentioned trying to pick out just one or two favorite bottles from our collections.. Not an easy task for those of you with a lot of bottles !

I gave myself the same test, but could not pick fewer than three favorite minerals that would really give me that wow factor if carved into a snuff bottle..

There are so many different and stunning Ocean Jaspers. They are found right off the shores of Madagascar !

A first choice and favorite I would like to see a bottle carved from is a heavily concentrated, multi colored floating orb type.

Another would be carved from the many beautiful Sagenites ..

Lastly, breccaited type Jaspers.

Thanks George,

Those sure are stunning looking stones. Have you looked at Richard's site dedicated to "Stone Fun"? There are some very interesting ones in there.

I too would love to commission a stone bottle from a chunk of my own chosen rock. An aquaintance from Mongolia did just that. I helped him to sourced a brilliant blue chunk of lapis lazuli in Bangkok, which he took back to Ulaanbaatar to have carved into a snuff bottle. If anyone has seen my recent article in the JICSBS, it is illustrated in there. If I get the opportunity to visit Mongolia again, I am tempted do the same.
