Hello everybody,
Yesterday I followed snuff bottles lot at French auctions and this lot of 3 porcelain bottles was sold 11.000 euros without fees... Why this price?
Thanks!

Thomas,

I can not give you an explanation.   In my opinion the three bottle lot should be between $800 to $1200 USD, at most. None of these bottles are of exceptional quality.

I agree with Charll, these bottles do not appear to be exceptional.
Sometimes the only explanation is a bidding war by two bidders who are both determined to win.
Very lucky for the seller!

Charll, Tom, thanks for your replies.
Me too I actually found that the price was unjustified for these bottles so I'm reassured. At first I thought of an input error from the auctioneer now I wonder if this is not a manipulation to prevent online auctions and favor buyers in the room. With a correction of the final price to 1100 euros and not 11000.

The reason is that the inscription on the bottle on the right side is reporting where the treasure was buried. 😊

And the only way to read the rest of the directions on the other side of the bottle was to buy it...!  Grin  Grin

Guys,
The underglaze copper red on the left is Daoguang [ca.1821-1850] and actually very good;
and the one on the right is Daoguang or Xianfeng so before 1854.
I see damage on the middle one, but none on either of the two better bottles.
I could imagine paying up to US$1,500 each for the two, if there is no damage other than mild wear
consonant with age and use.
And US$100 for the one in the middle.
So, US$3100, or 2,950 Euros.
Best,
Joey
