Following   Richard's  advice  I am  exploring  Cloud  options

The  first that   came  up  was  MSN /  Hotmal  " Skydrive"  which  gives  me  7 GB for  free  and  I paid   for another  20 GB   for  one  year  @  GB PDS6  =   US$8

I can  upload    individual   pics  ( jpgs)  to this     Skydrive   but  I cannot  upload   whole   files   (e.g. my  DB)    which  contain  hundreds  of   sub-files,   which  in  turn   contain   sub-sub- files  /  word-doc/ pdf/ jpegs

What I need  is  a  Cloud  which allows  me to upload  my  whole    modern  artist  DB  as  one single  / intact   file,  so that  anyone  can   download  it  as  one  intact   file  -  just  like a    video   file

Can  anyone  please   advise ?

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter

For an alternate choice on the online storage, please see my post under the new topic: Online Library for Snuff Bottle Publications.

If you wish to combine a few files into one for easier uploading and downloading, you compress your files using program like Zip which compress and create an archive of the files.

However, you entire database probably will be too huge to be compressed into a single file. You can split the archive and have them uploaded to the online storage.

One can download the 'parts' and combine them to form the original single archive.

All the software are readily available on the internet and most of them are free to use.

For your information.

Regards.

Hi Richard

I can't   find  your  new   topic  on the  Forum   and I have  asked   George to  make  it   a   new  main   thread on the  home page

If  I have  to  break up the  DB  into bits  every time  I   update   / upload it   I prefer to   stay with   with  USB  sticks. It's  slow , costly  and  cumbersome but it  works   OK

Today I  spoke   with   PCCW  -  my  service  provider for   mobile phone  /  home  phone/  home  broadband and   TV-video.  I pay them  about  US$150 / month  for  all the  services  they   supply me .  I recently  got a  flyer   advertising their  new  Cloud  service .  When I called  today   to speak to a  technical     service  advisor   he  didn't  even know  what the  word " Cloud" meant, and  had  to  put  me  on hold  for  3  minutes    while  he   checked  it  out  ( ! )

Anyway  -    finally he   told me PCCW'c  Cloud  cannot  upload   whole  data  files   containing    sub and  sub-sub fliles   including   word-doc and  pdfs.  They can  only  host    direct   uploads  of      jpegs,  itunes and   videos.

 Cry

If  you   any better   info  please   tell me. cost is  not a  problem

Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter,

I think Richard already gave you a good suggestion.Smiley

You can compress the folders and sub folders to a compressed file, in this case you only need to upload several huge compressed files.

I think that should work fine for sharing files.
