All, just getting around to cataloging another recent bottle from a Bonhams LA auction of 5 December 2023.  This is one in a two bottle lot, and was the targeted bottle of the purchase.  I've been looking for a good amethyst glass bottle for some years now, an finally got an exceptional one in my assessment.

Amethyst Glass Snuff Bottle:
Flattened ovoid transparent purple glass bottle imitating amethyst with a neat oval raised footrim, a deeply waisted neck supporting a flat lip, each facial side has conforming raised panel separated by two vertical raised and sensitively recessed panels on the narrow sides.  Bottle was likely mold blown to create the uniform elliptical interior that matches the facial panels.  Bottle walls intentionally crafted thick to give weight and perception of stone.  Stopper is an amethyst cabochon set in a beaded brass bezel collar with neat fawn colored ivory spoon.  Bottle height is 5.3 cm without stopper by 1.6 cm wide.  Weight without stopper 37.3 g. [WHR= 0.7038]

Period: ca. 1780-1850

Condition:  Very good condition.  Minor wear and abraded surfaces and a minuscule compress crack on raised footrim.

Provenance:  Bonhams, Asian Works of Art, Los Angeles, 5 December 2023, Lot 141.  (Two Bottle Lot)
Property From the Collection of Kim Green Collection no. 116
Quinn's, Falls Church, 22 May 2010, Lot 298 (one of a two bottle lot)
                    Private New Zealand Collection

Sometime after the Quinn's sale (2010) someone provided a much better stopper for the bottle.  Charll

Beautiful Bottle Charll!  Kim and Jim always found some jewels like this one at Quinns Auction.  I always enjoyed listening to their discussions about particular bottles they were considering.  So happy you have this special bottle.

Thanks all for the positive and affirming comments.  Kim Green and I had a few chats over the years, but never had the chance to develop a better friendship.  One on my regrets!    Charll
