Dear all,
I have already shown in another thread this bottle prior to buy it. Now that I have it you can see better pictures. The previous owner has classified it as Manchurian. It is of fine quality to my eyes, although metal is not my forte at all.

Dear Giovanni,

I have not come across another snuff bottle like this before. Of course, it may have been for containing some other substance.

The decorative motifs look Mongolian or Manchurian, so the owner may well be right about his classification. It could even be Tibetan. Most Mongolian personal objects like snuff bottles were carried in a pouch hung from the waist band, so tend to have smooth or rounded edges, and a small foot. This one was clearly designed to stand on a flat surface.

It looks very well made, but not older than ca. 1950, in my opinion.

Why do you think it is unique, George? I assume that there would have to be at least a few of these around.

Dear all,
thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I too think that the quality of the molding is good and also the fact that it is silvered points toward a good quality item. I will look carefully at the stones to see if they are real stones.
Kind regards
Giovanni
