Very interested in learning where we might learn more of how they can be compared against verified locations. Capitals, schools, etc..

If you know of an online sourcs, or book, please post it here !  Smiley

I found this in Bob Stevens, Collector Book of Snuff Bottles.

I have so darn much to learn.. !

The seal on the bottle that is similar ( second image ) to mine ( first image ) is at least a bit more legible, but hardly clear enough to make out for sure. Even if I did have some kind of referencing for these seals doubt it is of much use. Seems like because of the similarities between these two it seems like any information I might get from either seal or inscription could be good clues to telling some history of both bottles. They are so similar !  Here is the thread showing both bottles side by side.

I can not read Chinese, so can't make heads or tails of what the entire inscriptions read on either of these two bottles. The only thing I have to go on at this time is the above reference from Bob Stevens Book. I have downloaded NJStar, but still trying to learn how to use it.

I can at least make out the first charactor of each bottle "that appear" to both stand for "made by" located at the beginning of both these inscriptions. Here are a couple of pics showing the similarities between these two bottles.

George, that should the last character.

The Chinese inscription should be read from right to left.

For your reference.

Hi  George

If  you  have  zero  training  in Chinese (+  characters ! )  do  not   even  TRY  to  de- cipher  what's  written  on a  bottle

The  only  way to  is  to  ask a  native  Chinese ( like  Richard)  to help  you  understand

I can  read  and  write  Chinese   at  a somewhat  low  level  ( good  enough for  SMS  )  but  I  would  still   always  refer  any  translation of    what's   written on  a  bottle  to my  wife , who is Chinese

Please  don't  take that as  a   criticism  . Just a  fact of  life .

Cheers    Peter  @  HK

PS  :  If  it's  any  consolation  -   I cannot  understand   a lot of the  dialogue  on US  movies  these days , and  so  sometimes  I    find  myself  looking  at the  Chinese  subtitles  to try and make  some  sense  of  what  was said !
