Dear all,
I would like to share the bottle that bring me to join to this forum. James and Charll already know it, because I did post it in the forum of Chinese porcelain; there they informed me that the bottle was painted by Yan Yutian and invited me to join this forum. I really thanks both them.
This is the kind of inside decoration that I like. The bottle is made of a very clear glass, so clear that looks rock crystal but indeed it is not because by carefully looking I found a couple of small bubbles. Nevertheless it lacks the typical swirls that usually we can see on the base of glass bottles. At least I can see them on the other glass bottles that I have, which are all colored glass. May be I can't see them here because of the high transparency of the glass.
The paint is very light, I don't know if it was made that way or if the colors faded in time. On the right side of the black fish there is a pink fish that is barely visible. Over the rocks there is a prayer mantis and a grasshopper.
Kind regards
Giovanni

What a beauty !

Very much so a Yan Yutian...

I don't know.. There must be a difference in the way the glass blower created some bottles so that some do, and some do not show the swirls..  But the bubles do tell that it is not rock crystal..

I really like the insects, and fish...

Hi Giovanni,

Love your bottle, YYT is a very good middle period artist who were discussed a lot on our forum, his painting style is quite unique, and quite different with other's.His calligraphy is not so well, so he barely has any inscription on his bottle, sometime Just his name, or a seal.

His bottles are undervalued for some reason, that is why we still can find some decent his bottles with a surprised bargain price. I remembered George and I all had some luck to find some very good his bottle with beer budget.

I am a big fan of YYT, wish I can more of his bottles:)

Really lovely bottle.  The style is almost of western water color.  Anyone care to suggest why there is no signature?

Thank you dear all.
Dear Walter, it may be because he was a bad calligrapher as said by Steven?
Dear Steven, I bought this bottle on ebay for 150 euro. I didn't know who were the artist, just fall in love with the paint. It has been a nice surprise to hear by Charll that it was painted by a well known artist.

I have 4 YYT bottles and only 1 is signed. Apparently what Steven says is that he liked to play games, even sometimes hide the seals...

Giovanni,
A very nice Yan Yutian indeed.  Congratulations. I've not got a good YYT that cheap in at least 10 years.
In fact, a dear friend who is a dealer in Jade, has a YYT in glass with a tiny chip in the mouth rim, and thought she could get US$2500 (!) for it. She asked my opinion.  I told her that without the chip, it was US$1000-1200. With the chip, $600-800 tops.
I have 12, and 9 are signed Yan Yutian; 2 are signed Zhou Leyuan (but with a red seal, Yan Yutian), both with an 1888 date (his first year of painting); and only 1 is unsigned.
But both your bottle and my unsigned one are obviously YYT.

For the record, a Yan Yutian bottle was on sale a few days ago at a local auction. It was on sale together with another bottle signed Xue Shaofu for 1,000 euro in total but they was not sold.
Here is the Yan Yutian bottle.

Dear Pat,
sorry I did a mistake. Before to contact you I have just searched for the link to the auction house and I have found that the above lot was not in the auction of the last week, it was in the same auction of 2011, one year ago. Sorry for that. I have seen that there was two bottles of Xue Shao Fu in that sale. BTW if you need more information please contact me. I have to run now but will be back shortly.

Dear all,

Damaged Yan Yu Tian bottle. How is it that there are paint flaking off only near the name area and not the rest of the bottle?

Cheers,
YT

PS: not trying to deliberately bring up an old topic as I don't know where else to post this.

Dear YT,
It is not clear to me.
Where is the bottle?
Is it posted, so we can see it for ourselves?
Did you not know you could start a new thread?
Best,
Joey

Hi Joey

The bottle is in the attached PDF file. You will need a PDF reader installed or a PDF enabled browser to view the file. You can download Adobe Reader or add and PDF reader extension/plug-in to your browser (check under settings in your browser).

YT, perhaps you want to attach a JPG image instead.

Regards.

Hi YT,

Here is your bottle with JPG format, it looks right to me, atho its not the best example of YYT.

Its a 100 year old bottle, so something might happened to this bottle, maybe someone was trying to clean it somehow, so the painting was damaged around the left side, but its still a beautiful bottle. I like it a lot!

Steven

Thank you Steven for converting. I'm still lost when it comes to posting photos and setting the size.

I was mystified by the patch. Thanks all for your comments.

Cheers, YT
